saturday night. 17-year old hanren chang. was crossing sloat boulevard. when she was struck. a student who knew chang says, many people are now trying to cope with the devastating loss. with changes coming to knock down crime in oakland. reporting in oakland, kron 4. >> we're following a developing story right now out of san jose. where police are investigating the city's 7th homicide of the year this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc7 news. just before four this afternoon, san jose police received a report of a man-- believed to be stabbed--. it happened in guadalupe oak grove park in almaden valley. the victim is believed to be in his late teens or twenties. he was pronounced dead at the scene. it's not yet known what led up to the incident nor the motive. no suspects have been identified or apprehended. >> pam: tonight, in one contra costa county town. the warning to residents was simply this -- a high risk sex offender will soon be living in your neighborhood. that's the message that the sheriff's office gave to neighbors in bay point today. >> he will be under strict supervision. he will be under 247 gps monitoring of. he could be searched, tested at any time and as a curfew. it will be difficult to know what he will be going at every second vote

heavy commute- you may have noticed some changes today. all this week. bikers will be allowed on board during peak commute hours in the morning and at night. kron 4's j.r. stone has more on the week long test program. new tonight at 8-- bart might be considering extending its service north into the east bay... possibly as far as hercules. kron 4's charles clifford has details and shows us where the new train routes could run. district 7 bart board member zakhary mallet is floating the idea of building new bart lines north from the city of richmond as a way to relieve chronic traffic congestion along interstate 80. let's take a look at a google earth map of the area. right now the richmond station, which is here in the middle of the city, is the northern most stop on the richmond-fremont bart line. the idea would be to extend that line to the north parrell to the path of nearby interstate 80. along that route, new bart stations could be added in san pablo here near the richmond hilltop shopping centers... further north in pinole... and there could even be service all the way to hercules

will tell you what has changed. thousands of teachers across the bay area and the state are getting pink slips. but the silver lining tonight is the number of teachers receiving those notices is down dramatically. new tonight at 8-- kron 4's dan kerman explains the drop is linked directly to a ballot measure passed in the last election. here's a breakdown by school district. san francisco unified could cut 185 jobs. that's 142 certified staff positions -- and 43 teacher aides. oakland unified could cut 65 administrators. and 11 non-tenured teachers. alum rock is giving out 87 preliminary notices -- 78 to teachers. antioch may cut 13 teachers. redwood city. 8 certified positions may be eliminated - including school nurses and counselors. and for fremont, san jose unified, walnut creek and palo alto unified -- those districts say *no pink slips have been sent out. some of the teachers receiving these notices are all too familiar with them. in fact, some have been receiving them for years. the next big deadline is may 15th. that's when school administrators will send out finalized pink

its' passengers can and can not carry onto planes. kron 4's charles clifford shows us the changes. >> reporter: the transportation security adminstration says it wants to start spending more time looking for high threat items, like explosives, and less time confiscating small things like hand held knives and sporting equipment starting on april 25th, airline passengers will be allowed to carry on knives with blades shorter than 2.36 inches long and ½ an inch wide. knives with locking or fixed blades will not allowed and the knife can not have a molded grip. box cutters and razor blades will remain prohibited. the tsa will also start allowing passengers to carry on some sporting equipment, including ski poles, hockey sticks, up to two golf clubs, pool cues and lacrosse sticks. they will also allow bats that weigh less than 24 ounces and are shorter than 24 inches. the bat can be longer than 24 inches as long as it meets the weight limit. once again, these new changes take effect on april 25th. in the newsroom, charles clifford, kron 4 news. >> pam: venezuela's six-term president h

patients have to wait two to three weeks for results. results that could potentially change their life. i'm shelby lin reporting. >> the f-d-a says, it has approved the first diabetes medicine, that uses a new method to lower blood sugar. the new drug from johnson and johnson. is for adults with type-two diabetes. which affects roughly 26- million americans. the once- a -day medicine is designed to lower blood sugar levels by eliminating more sugar from the patients urine. it works by blocking the re-absorption of sugar by the kidneys -- which is more common in patients with diabetes. this differs from previous drugs. which targeted sugar absorption in the liver. the c-d-c is kicking off a new anti- smoking campaign on monday. this is the agency's second set of public service announcments. which use real life stories from people who have been harmed by tobacco. the campaign is called "tips from former smokers". and aims to save lives, money and reduce the suffering caused by smoking. according to the c-d-c. tobacco is the leading preventable cause of death in the u-s. it affects eight-

temperatures. and big changes half far the state supreme court has cleared a walmart plan to create a super-center in antioch. where the retailer has been trying for a decade to expand its existing store. kron 4's charles clifford shows us what will happen next. this is a google earth view of the existing walmart in antioch. it's near the intersection of lone tree way and hillcrest avenue. currently, the store has about 141 thousand square feet of retail space. under the newly approved plan to expand the store into a supercenter, the retailer will add more than 33 thousand square feet of space on the store's western side...here... the expanded area will include a grocery store, a garden center, a tire and lube express and additional merchandise space. walmart also plans to add 176 additional parking spaces in this empty lot to the west of the store. there reconfigurations to the existing parking lot, bringing the total number of parking spots to 918. walmart will also be making major changes to the exterior faÇade of the store, including adding a 10 foot tall brick wall and additiona
